Who Can Apply?

The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence are open to tourism businesses and tourism support organisations which meet the published criteria for the award category or categories they are entering. Please note, there is no requirement for businesses to be quality assessed by VisitEngland, the AA or any other assessing body. An important change for 2017, is that Gold winners from the 2016 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence may not apply for the same category in the 2017 Awards.

Each entry form below provides an overview of the category together with detailed guidance on the criteria and types of business and organisation that can apply. An overview of each category is on the Help PagePlease note, the application forms below are for information only. The applications must be completed online through the Online Tool.

Submissions must be made online via this website. PDF versions of the applications forms may also be downloaded below for review offline.

How do I enter?
The route of entry is different depending on which part of the country your business is located. For those operating in areas where local or regional tourism awards are being organised, you must first enter into these local or regional competitions. Winners of these competitions are eligible to apply, but will not be automatically entered into the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, they will need to apply via this website. Entrants via this route have the chance of winning both a local and a national award. For those in areas without a local award scheme, you can enter direct into the VisitEngland Awards competition. The special additional categories will be open to any tourism business to apply directly.
How will I know which application route to take?
Simply by going to the Apply section of this website and using the Where to Apply online tool you will be guided through the options to find out all you need to know and how to proceed. Select the area where your business is located and you will be shown the following options relevant to your area.
  • You can enter directly into the VisitEngland Awards Scheme. Proceed to application process for all categories.
  • You should first enter your local or regional competition. You will be given contact details and closing dates for local/regional competitions.
  • You may enter certain categories directly into the VisitEngland Awards if these categories are not covered by your local/regional competition
Does it cost anything to enter?
There are no direct entry fees for applications to the national awards organised by VisitEngland. However, organisers of some local competitions that feed entries through to the national awards do require applicants to be members of their regional/local organisations and may charge a fee. Please check with your local competition organiser if this applies to your category.

In addition, as part of the judging process for the VisitEngland Awards, some category entrants may be subject to a mystery shopping visit. In these cases our assessors will advise entrants when they are checking out or leaving and any costs associated with their accommodation, meals or entry charge must be reimbursed. Details are included on the individual application forms where this may apply.
Can I enter more than one category?
Yes. We encourage businesses to enter as many categories as they wish as long as they meet the required criteria for each category. However, separate application forms must be submitted for each.
